Dr. Cory B. Scott Author and Founder

Dr. Cory B. Scott is a writer, professor, and the founder of Bailey Brook Publications — and in many ways, the heart behind everything this company does.

His work explores identity, resilience, and the long aftermath of personal rupture. Not the crisis itself, but what comes after — when the emergency ends, the world moves on, and the internal shift quietly remains. Following a series of neurological events that altered both his body and his sense of self, Cory found himself in exactly that territory. Rather than skip past it, he wrote into it.

Through the After the Breaking series and earlier works like God's in the Garden, he examines the emotional terrain most survival stories leave out — the nonlinear middle, the faith that no longer fits neatly, the pressure to perform recovery for everyone else's comfort. These are the honest, messy, human stories he believes most need to be told. And the belief that the right story at the right time can change everything is what built Bailey Brook.

That same season of recovery led Cory into an unexpected second focus: artificial intelligence, decision-making, and human adaptation. What began as personal curiosity grew into an academic and creative pursuit — exploring how AI can support cognition, communication, and reinvention after life-altering disruption. His work now sits at the intersection of human vulnerability and emerging technology, asking how tools like AI can amplify resilience, reshape leadership, and help people rebuild identity and purpose after everything changes.

His career has been anything but conventional — spanning law enforcement, corporate sales, service, leadership, publishing, and higher education. He's held a lot of titles along the way. The one he values most is Professor, because it lets him do what he loves most: mentor, challenge, and walk alongside others in their own reinvention.

He lives in California with his family and continues to write at the intersection of truth, vulnerability, technology, and forward motion.

Samantha Spilman Author & Director of Digital Operations

Samantha Spilman is a writer, storyteller, and advocate whose work explores resilience, identity, and the often unseen realities of living through illness and personal hardship. Her writing is grounded in lived experience — honest, unhurried, and shaped by both struggle and hard-won growth.

A few years into her own Type 1 diabetes diagnosis, Samantha has moved from navigating the initial shock into something steadier — and that shift is at the heart of her debut novella, a raw, personal account of what life looks like after a diagnosis that changes everything. She writes for people learning to live through what they didn't choose: those rebuilding, adapting, and figuring it out in real time. Her background in psychology shapes the way she approaches that work — with intention, empathy, and a genuine understanding of how people process hardship and change.

She may be across the country from the rest of the family, but she has never been far from the heart of this company.

Anastasio Romero Author

At just six years old, Anastasio is proof that the best stories can come from the smallest voices.

His picture book, Shorty the Monster Truck, was born from his own life — the experience of moving through a world that doesn't always feel made for him. As a child with autism and ADHD, Anastasio knows what it means to feel different, to feel too big or too small for the space you're in, and to find the courage to show up anyway.

Shorty isn't just a monster truck. He's Anastasio's heart on the page — a character built from real feeling, for every kid who has ever wondered if there's a place where they belong.

Anastasio is one of Bailey Brook's youngest authors, and one of its most important voices.
